ShelfCheck

Description

What ShelfCheck is

ShelfCheck is a shelf-audit tool for retail field teams. This page is the longer version of that sentence: what the instrument is meant to do, what it is deliberately not, and where it currently stands — which is nowhere, in public and on purpose.

Four parts of one visit

Design intent. None of this is implemented.

The visit
One auditor, one store, one sheet. Walk the section, count the facings that are actually there, check the tag against the price it should be, flag anything missing, photograph what you are describing.
The difference
The count on its own is a number. Compared against the quantity the store’s own system holds, it becomes a difference — a line that is wrong, and evidence of how wrong.
The evidence
A difference nobody believes is worth nothing, so each line is meant to carry the photograph taken at the moment it was counted. Shelves only: a shelf audit has no business photographing people.
The report
What a manager should be able to open afterwards: the store, the sheet, the differences in order of size, and the photographs attached to them.

On record

Nothing described beside this column has run: no visit has been assigned, no line counted, no photograph stored and no report generated. It is written as intent and labelled as intent.

What it is not

Not a marketplace
ShelfCheck is not a way to pay strangers to photograph shelves. Audits are run by a team you can name, because an audit you cannot trace is not an audit.
Not machine vision
No model reads the photographs. Counting is done by the person in the aisle. Nothing in this repository calls a vision model, and no accuracy figure exists to quote.
Not a comparison
This site makes no claim about being cheaper or faster than the clipboard, the spreadsheet or a field rep. No such measurement has been taken, so no such claim is available to make.
Not shipping
It is a design and an argument. There is no software you can run, and there will be no announcement that there is until there is.

On record

Each of the four boundaries beside this column is a decision, not a gap in the roadmap. Two of them — the marketplace and the machine vision — were things this site once advertised.

Where this stands today

A shelf-audit tool with no audits is a document, not a product, and this site is written to be read that way. The full itemised list of what has not been built is on the home page, and it is the first thing that will change.
